Legault Shot Down A Demand By Quebec's Restaurants & Bars To Reopen For Vaccinated People

At a press conference on Sunday, Premier François Legault shot down a recent demand issued by the Corporation des Propriétaires de Bars, Brasseries et Tavernes du Québec and the Union des Tenanciers de Bars du Québec that suggested the government should reopen Quebec restaurants and bars, among other red zone businesses, to people who have already received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

In response to a question about this demand, Legault said that it "would not be responsible" to reopen restaurants and bars in the red zone for the time being.

"Our industry simply cannot take it anymore," wrote the restaurant and bar union's representatives.

"Allow restaurant and bar owners to reopen their establishments without further delay, but in a limited way, so as to only allow Quebecers who have received at least a first dose of the vaccine."

Legault suggested that the government is looking at "being able to move several regions to the orange zone" in the coming weeks, which means restaurant dining rooms will be able to reopen in a limited capacity.
