A new takeout window ups Montreal's brunch game with eggs Benny sandwiches

Hot on the heels of recently opening a pan pizza spot in St-Henri, Danny St Pierre is keeping his snowballing momentum up with the opening of Le Pontiac. The hook? A brunch takeout window in the front doing eggs Benny sandwiches and quick morning snacks while it churns out more pan pizzas in the back, by the half or whole.

The significance of a brunch window making eggs Benedict once again enjoyable à la minute shouldn’t be lost on any Montrealer. While everyone patiently (or impatiently) waits for proper dining services to resume in the city, brunch services across town have been stuck with an unsolvable situation: Who wants a cold poached egg?

By sandwiching them between bread to go, Le Pontiac can serve a classic poached egg with spinach, ham and hollandaise sauce hot and on the spot. Similar fresh breakfast vibes are available with the menu’s other sammies, from a smoked salmon option with scrambled eggs, to a sunny-side-up egg with smoked meat. Vegetarians can go eggless with a VLT that comes with veggie pâté.

That menu of destination-making sandwiches gets rounded out with smoothies and coffees, as well as yogurt parfaits, muffins, galettes and chia pudding. All of this will be churned out at the takeout window for now, but the restaurant plans to operate a dine-in service in the future.

For this new project — in the spot that once housed the brunch hangout Les Folies — St Pierre is joined by Pierre Thibault, Frédéric Martel, Nicolas Rochette of Taverne Saint-Sacrement (which means fresh pizzas may be available at that bar when permitted) and Maxime Rousseau of Pub West Shefford.
